Former Tottenham captain Sol Campbell says he is sure that the club must have moved on from the switch to Arsenal that saw him branded ‘Judas’.

The ex-England international admitted that the impact of vitriol directed towards him after transferring between the north London rivals was scary.

He told the BBC: “I was 25/26. I was a young man and I wanted to win.

“We are talking 15 years ago now. I am sure Tottenham as a club have moved on.”

Campbell indicated that chants from Spurs fans, including rumours about his sexuality, had started to be taken as the truth even by those not in the crowd at White Hart Lane.

He added: “It is just bizarre. It really is.

“One minute you move from Tottenham to Arsenal and the next minute people are singing things on the terraces.

“It is quite scary that people take as gospel what is said on the terraces.”

Campbell joined Arsenal on a free transfer in 2001 having previously spent his entire career at Tottenham.
