With the World Cup now underway, you may recall the last one ended with the Netherlands kicking Spain off the park, including Nigel De Jong’s infamous karate kick on Xabi Alonso.

Ahead of tonight’s clash between the two sides, Real Madrid midfielder Alonso has taken part in a photoshoot recreating (and embellishing ever so slightly) De Jong’s impact on his chest.

The pair could face-off again this evening. Former Liverpool man Alonso will be hoping for less of an impact on his ribcage, but won’t mind another 1-0 win for Spain.

He will be pleased not to have referee Howard Webb in charge this evening. This English official became a bit of a hate figure in Spain for his lax handling of the Dutch physicality four years ago.
