Atletico Madrid are lining up Manchester United flop Shinji Kagawa in case they are unable to seal a deal for Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla, according to reports.
The La Liga champions are desperately trying to reinforce their squad after a number of exits this summer but with Cazorla keen to stay at the Gunners boss Diego Simeone is now looking at alternatives – with United misfit Kagawa representing an affordable option.
Simeone is now ready to step-up his interest in Kagawa, with the Japanese international likely to remain on the periphery at Old Trafford this term, according to the Daily Mail.
Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj and Wayne Rooney are all candidates to fill the no.10 role, which is also Kagawa’s favoured position.
And the former Borussia Dortmund man is likely to jump at the chance of escaping his United nightmare.
Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are also said to be monitoring his situation with interest.
