Newcastle are hoping to bring summer signing Jamaal Lascelles to the club earlier than planned, according to reports.

The 20-year-old Nottingham Forest defender signed for the Magpies along with goalkeeper Karl Darlow for a combined fee of £7m in the summer.

Both were immediately sent back to the City Ground on season-long loans.

But the Magpies would now like to bring Lascelles in earlier, claims the Sunday Express.

After their poor start to the Premier League season, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is reportedly looking into the possibility of adding the England Under-21 international to his squad in January.

Forest boss Stuart Pearce would be reluctant to see a key member of his squad leave midway through their promotion push.

The report doesn’t indicate whether Lascelles’ loan contract includes a January break clause or if Newcastle would be reliant on a favour from the Championship side to bring the youngster to St James’ Park ahead of schedule.
