Rangers midfielder Lewis Macleod is a transfer target for Everton and Burnley, according to reports.

The 20-year-old has impressed with his performances in the Scottish Championship this season, which saw him rewarded with a Scotland call-up earlier this month.

Roberto Martinez, who has previously had success shopping in Scotland for James McCarthy and James McArthur, is said to view Macleod as one for the future and is considering a January bid for him.

Burnley are also weighing up an approach for Macleod after receiving glowing scouting reports, claims the Daily Mail. The young midfielder would be more likely to see immediate first-team action at Turf Moor as manager Sean Dyche seeks reinforcements for their relegation scrap.

Macleod is two years into a five-year contract he signed in 2012.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist has previously admitted that any decision taken about Macleod’s future would be a financial one.

He said: “Lewis is playing every week, enjoying his football and he is clearly developing and it goes without saying we want that to continue.

“I will be dictated to by the board and people who make decisions but certainly from a footballing point he is doing absolutely smashing and he is a key member of our squad.”
