Roma are growing in anger over reports Manchester United are ready to take Kevin Strootman off their hands in January.

The Dutch midfielder, a key part of Louis van Gaal’s Holland side before he sustained a cruciate knee injury, returned to action earlier this month after 10 months on the sidelines.

And following the player’s return to fitness, speculation has grown that he will be on his way to Old Trafford for a reunion with Van Gaal.

But the Serie A club’s chief executive Mauro Baldissoni has rubbished a deal is being discussed for the reported Chelsea target.

“Strootman? We have already expressed our positon,” he told Radio Anch’lo Sport. “Our president [James Pallotta] gets angry on a daily basis over reports that we want to close the sale to Manchester United.

“Our policy is to invest in quality players who have room for improvement. Kevin is a young player, experienced, and we want to bass our future on players like him.

“I don’t know [if United will now bid for Kevin now Roma are out of the Champions League] this is something you need to ask Van Gaal or Mr Woodward. We’re not thinking of selling our best players.”
