Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is reportedly in line to replace Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia at Brighton, who handed in his resignation after a dismal run of three wins from 22 league games.

Sherwood is close friends with Brighton chief executive Paul Barber and was interviewed for the job before Hyypia was appointed in the summer, the Star says.

The former Blackburn midfielder has spurned opportunities to get back into the game, including with Crystal Palace at the start of the season when Tony Pulis left.

Hypia was jeered by his own fans during Brighton’s 1-0 defeat at home to Millwall earlier this month and his last game as Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Having turned down the chance to manage in the Premier League it is unclear whether Sherwood would see it as below him to manage at the bottom of the Championship.
