Sunderland and West Brom are the latest Premier League clubs to show an interest in signing Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The 23-year-old is thought to be a target for Arsenal and has also been linked with moves to Southampton and Manchester City.

But it was the Black Cats and Baggies who dispatched scouts to the Bhoy’s game against Kilmarnock on Monday night to watch the former Netherlands Under-21 international in action, according to the Daily Mail.

New West Brom boss Tony Pulis has representatives in the crowd, with the former Crystal Palace and Stoke City manager apparently keen to assess Scottish Premiership talent to help his side’s relegation scrap.

Celtic first-team coach John Kennedy said: “Until something is firm and concrete it is just rumours. Virgil is a massive player for us, we don’t want to lose him.”

Van Dijk is rated at around £8m, but the Scottish champions have hinted they will hold out for a big fee for their star defender.
