Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford insists he wants to fight for his place at the club.

The 21-year-old is currently enjoying a successful season-long loan at Championship side Middlesbrough.

He has issued a statement today to say that recent comments attributed to him about his Chelsea future were taken out of context.

The striker had supposedly indicated that Jose Mourinho did not have plans for him at the club and had told him to join Boro last summer because he wouldn’t be involved for the Blues.

Bamford has scored 13 goals for Boro this season, with the most recent strike coming in Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Millwall. Since that game, the reports suggesting he thought he did not feature in Mourinho’s plans surfaced.

The England Under-21 international insists that is not the case and he is confident of progressing at Stamford Bridge under Mourinho.

He said: “I have discussed my career path with Jose on many occasions and am very happy with it.

“Everyone’s aim is for me to continue to develop as a player under Jose’s supervision and to have a long and successful career at Chelsea.”

Bamford is under contract with Chelsea until 2017.
