Supporters hurled abuse and season tickets at their Uruguayan boss, with stewards stepping in as fans surrounded the dugout and tried to approach Poyet.

Hundreds of fans left the Stadium of Light before half-time after a third goal went in for Villa. Those that stayed behind saw their side concede another before the interval.
