Captain Wayne Rooney can return to his preferred position upfront on his return to his boyhood club.
Daley Blind is fit enough to return to the side in the only change to Louis van Gaal’s starting lineup. Although he was playing at left-back before his injury, he is deployed as a defensive midfielder in Michael Carrick’s injury-enforced absence.
That means Luke Shaw keeps his place at left-back after his impressive showing at Chelsea.
Also retained from the defeat at Stamford Bridge is Paddy McNair. He continues as a left-sided centre-back, with Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones both ruled out.
Despite his return from suspension, Jonny Evans doesn’t make the matchday squad.
United retain as much of the settled team that has done well in recent weeks as possible. That means Marouane Fellaini starts against his former club.
Starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, McNair, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Young, Rooney
