Unsettled former Tottenham star Jermain Defoe is being lined up by Bournemouth where he enjoyed a dramatic loan spell at the beginning of his career.

The Mirror report the former England striker wants out of Sunderland despite only joining the club last January.

The Black Cats have started the season in nightmare fashion and look set for their annual relegation battle already.

Defoe, 32, is keen on a return to the south, where he had spent his whole career before he joined MLS side Toronto from Tottenham in 2014.

He became a hero at then-League Two Bournemouth with an incredible loan spell with the south coast club when West Ham sent him out to get experience at age 18.

Defoe scored 18 goals in just 29 league games between October 2000 and May 2001 – and equalled a post-war Football League record by scoring in 10 consecutive games.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe wants to add proven experience to his squad that has been unfortunate in their opening two games of the season leaving them with two defeats.
