Gareth Bale has been accused of being jealous of Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and told that he is not even a quarter as good as the Portuguese star.
The former Tottenham man’s agent Jonathan Barnett opened a can of worms yesterday when it lifted the lid on the Welshman’s relationship with Ronaldo, which has seemingly incensed sections of the Madrid press.
Bale’s second season at the club was disappointing with him struggling for form and confidence having been the subject of vicious taunts from fans and press alike.
Much was made of his relationship with Ronaldo, who was often seen showing his disapproval if Bale failed to pass to him.
Barnett admitted the pair were hardly bosom buddies but said there were no problems.
“They don’t go out eating every night together, but it’s fine. There’s no hatred there. Gareth is a quiet guy. They’re complete opposites,” he told the Guardian.
But his comments have not gone down well with those now being used against Bale – with it apparently proof he is jealous of the former Manchester United man.
Tomas Roncero, a columnist in Spanish newspaper AS, made his feelings clear on the subject.
“To say anything about Cristiano is inadmissible,” said Roncero, quoted by the Mirror. “It demonstrates that Bale has an infantile jealousy towards the Portuguese.
“It’s absurd to even compare him to [Ronaldo]. A quarter of Cristiano is better than Bale,” Roncero sneered.
