Bayern Munich are confident of tying Pep Guardiola down to a new deal to ward off Manchester City and Chelsea.

The German giants are said to be close to keeping the Spaniard, who will be offered an extension to his stay at the Allianz Arena until 2018, the Mirror report.

Bayern are hoping their move will ward off rivals, with City said to be the club they fear they most, though Chelsea are also said to be firmly in the running if they decide to sack Jose Mourinho.

Guardiola’s three-year contract at Bayern expires at the end of the current campaign and he has not agreed a new deal leading to speculation he will move to a the Premier League.

He was recently reported as having given City his word that he will join them in the summer after telling the Etihad director of football Txiki Begiristain he is ready to take on the role.

Guardiola is thought to be open to a new challenge and is keen on a move to the Premier League but there is a growing feeling he will remain at Bayern beyond this season now.

The report also adds that Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool because he was led to believe that Guardiola would stay at Bayern.
