A police officer told Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to calm down during last night’s 0-1 win at Sunderland.

The Reds boss was involved in a row with Black Cats counterpart Sam Allardyce and his backroom staff at the time.

Klopp was furious after a tackle by Jeremain Lens on Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho in the second-half of the game at the Stadium of Light. He felt the challenge merited a red card, whereas referee Kevin Friend opted only to show a yellow card to the Sunderland man.

According to The Guardian, Allardyce claims Klopp launched a tirade of “foul and abusive language” towards him after the incident.

It was this outburst that reportedly led to the police officer intervening and instructing Klopp to calm down.

The German coach was unapologetic after the game and maintained that Lens should have been sent-off.

He said: “I am not too sorry.

“Please, it was a foul. Of course, I was angry. For me, that is a red card, finished.

“So my staff were emotional, the staff of Sunderland were emotional but, if you look on your ticket, that is included. If nothing happens on the pitch, you can watch the bench. But it is over and Mamadou Sakho is OK.”

But Klopp and Allardyce did shake hands amicably after the game.
