Chelsea are considering a move to appoint Stoke City boss Mark Hughes as their new manager, according to The Guardian.

The Stamford Bridge hierarchy are reportedly impressed with their former player’s efforts in transforming the Potters’ style of play while retaining stability on the pitch.

Hughes is now said to be in the mix of potential candidates, along with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, Italy coach Antonio Conte and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.

The 52-year-old would be an outsider given the lack of Champions League experience and silverware on his CV. His managerial career to date has included jobs with Wales, following by a nine-year club career with Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers and now Stoke.

He is under contract with the Potters until June 2019.

The Blues are expected to appoint a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho, who was sacked in December, in the summer. Interim boss Guus Hiddink is in charge until the end of the season.
