Liverpool are plotting a deal to bring ex-Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez to Anfield in the summer transfer window, according to The Times.

The Mexico international left Old Trafford to sign for German side Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but his exploits in the Bundesliga have caught the attention of United’s fiercest Premier League rivals.

The Reds are said to have a long held in interest in the 27-year-old goalscorer, apparently making moves to sign him in the summer of 2014.

Aware that would make him a hate figure at United, Hernandez turned down the opportunity and decided to join Real Madrid on a season-long loan instead.

With Louis van Gaal having deemed him surplus to requirements at the start of this campaign, a move to Anfield would be slightly less toxic at this stage, though it is still unlikely to win him many friends among United’s supporters.

Hernandez, also known as Chicharito, has 19 goals in 23 games for Bayer so far this season.
