Ex-England international Ashley Cole has taken a huge pay-cut to sign for MLS side LA Galaxy.

The LA Times reports that the former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back is being paid $300,000-a-year by the Major League Soccer side, which works out at just £3,951.58-a-week at today’s exchange rates.

Cole infamously once claimed he nearly crashed his car out of anger when he received news that Arsenal had offered him a £55,000-a-week deal.

And we went on to earn £120,000-a-week at Chelsea. But the 35-year-old has had to accept a relatively modest salary in order to get his career back on track after falling out of favour at Roma.

His former England colleague Steven Gerrard and fellow ex-Premier League players Robbie Keane and Giovani dos Santos are Galaxy’s three designated players, which means they get bumper pay deals above the American league’s salary cap.

With those three slots filled, Cole will be paid significantly less.
