Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will miss this afternoon’s game against Sunderland.

The German coach has suffered a suspected bout of appendicitis and will not be at Anfield for this afternoon’s Premier League clash.

Klopp’s long-term lieutenants Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz are expected to be in charge in the dugout for the meeting with Sam Allardyce’s Black Cats.

The other members of the Reds’ backroom staff, Pepijn Lijnders and John Achterberg, will also be on hand to assist with Klopp’s duty.

The pre-match press conference on Friday – which you can see in the video above – was held as usual by Klopp, which suggests he was taken ill yesterday evening or overnight.

He is still in hospital at the moment receiving treatment for his illness.

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp, aged 48, replaced Brendan Rodgers as manager in October. He has won six Premier League games since taking charge.

Having previously chastised fans for leaving games early, he is set to miss a walkout protest over ticket prices during today’s game.
