New Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez opted for South Park socks for yesterday’s Tyne-Wear derby game against Sunderland.

The Spaniard set cross-legged in the dugout, causing his trouser leg to rise slightly and display Cartman, one of the animated television series’ main characters.

If Benitez had opted for that particular pair because they are his lucky socks, they did a decent job. Aleksandar Mitrovic popped up with an equaliser for the Magpies to avoid what would have been a disastrous defeat.
