The England international gave the Reds the lead inside the first minute at Anfield and they were 2-0 up at half-time after dominating the game.
But they had to settle for a point after a fightback from the Magpies.
Sturridge’s assessment was that the result was “dead” with his side have thrown away their lead.
He then turned his attention to this week’s Europa League semi-final clash with Villarreal.
