The England international headed straight for the tunnel without shaking hands with his opponents after the final whistle in this afternoon’s game. Perhaps aware that that reaction had caused a bit of a stir, he was quick to give a post-match reaction via social media.
Writing on Twitter, Sturridge said: “Absolutely gutted. Thanks to the fans for travelling and supporting us. God willing Thursday will be a better result.”
His mention of Thursday evening is particularly interesting because some observers were speculating that Sturridge is resigned to not starting against Villarreal having played the full match today.
