Ex-Newcastle and Spurs star David Ginola suffers heart attack

Former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur winger David Ginola has suffered a heart attack, according to French newspaper Nice-Matin.

The 49-year-old was on a football pitch in the town of Mandelieu, near Cannes, at the time. He had reportedly taken place in a charity golf tournament earlier in the day and was on a pitch at the property of Jean-Stéphane Camérini, organiser of the Mapauto Golf Cup.

Ginola is now at the Cardio-thoracic centre of Monaco after being transported from the scene of his cardiac arrest by helicopter. Ge is said to be unconscious but stable.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm local time (3.30pm UK time).

Ginola, a self-confessed smoker during his playing days, joined Newcastle from Paris Saint-Germain in 1995. He joined Spurs in 1997 and later moved on to Aston Villa and Everton before hanging up his boots in 2002.

He had been a regular on TV screens in recent years, working as a pundit.
