Arsenal will compete with Manchester United to sign Benfica starlet Goncalo Guedes, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.

The 19-year-old is reportedly been monitored closely by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who has been following his progress in recent times.

But Arsenal will have to go up against Premier League rivals United. The Red Devils are said to be keen on the youngster, as are Spanish side Valencia.

United will hope having Guedes’ compatriot Jose Mourinho in charge gives them the edge.

Guedes has a release clause of €60m on a contract that keeps him at Estadio da Luz until June 2021.

After impressing for the Benfica B team in the 2014/15, he was given a handful of opportunities in the first team.

He enjoyed a breakthrough season as a first-team regular in 2015/16.

Winger Guedes has two senior caps for Portugal after being called up to Fernando Santos’ squad just under a year ago.
