HISTORICAL MOMENTS:
1879: | Beginning play as an Independent team in 1877, the Syracuse Stars joined the National League after two successful seasons. The loss of the Stars would be a devastating blow for the IA, as the league would fold two years later. In the National League the Syracuse Stars did not fare much better as they finished in seventh place in the eight team league with a terrible record of 22-48. The Stars would not even make it through the entire season, as folded with several games remaining in the season. The top hitter for Syracuse was Jack Farrell who hit .303 with one home run and 21 RBI. The Stars leading pitcher was Harry McCormick with a record of 18-33 with an ERA of 2.99. Syracuse would get another Major League team in the American Association also called the Stars, but that team also lasted on season, as the city has remained a minor league venue ever since. |
