39-year-old striker finds new life in nets
OK, we knew Dean Windass was desperate to play football, but as goalkeeper for Oldham Athletic? Windass took the gloves when Latics keeper Greg Fleming was sent-off against Leicester City on 50 minutes at the weekend.
Windass managed to put off English football’s top scorer, Matty Fryatt, to the extent that he missed the resulting penalty and then produced a string of saves to keep the score at 0-0. Afterwards, he joked: “Tell [Fabio] Capello I’m available if he needs me. I think it’s the third time in my career I’ve had to go in goal and I’ve only ever let one in.”
You can watch a Sky Sports News report on the match below. Apologies for the woeful video quality.
