Plans for Liverpool to once again don white suits for a trip to Wembley have been shelved after an intervention by star striker Luis Suarez.

The Reds famously wore white Emporio Armani suits for their last trip to Wembley in 1996, and were planning to recreate the look for tomorrow’s Carling Cup final clash with Cardiff City.

But there has been a last minute change of heart.

Manager Kenny Dalglish explained: “The problem cropped up during our final suit fittings on Thursday. We were all thinking that white suits were the way to go.

“Then suddenly wee Luis starts shouting, ‘Negro, negro!’.

“At first we assumed he was loudly attracting the attention of Stevie Gerrard by shouting ‘Mate, mate!’. But then it dawned on us that he was actually suggesting that a black suit was a more classic cup final outfit.

“We’re backing Luis Suarez 100 per cent, and if he wanted to wear a black suit to Wembley that’s what we’ll be wearing. In Uruguay, it’s very common to wear black suits to all sorts of occasions.”
