Denmark and Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner in trouble over Paddy Power sponsored pants

Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner is likely to find himself in hot water after revealed a pair of Paddy Power-branded pants as part of a goal celebration.

The 24-year-old lifted his jersey to reveal the top of the green underwear as he wheeled away to celebrate his second goal in the 80th minute of last night’s 2-3 defeat to Portugal.

Uefa are notoriously control freakish about anything they perceive to be ambush marketing, and the Arsenal man’s actions are likely to fall into that category.

Platini and co’s regulations for Euro 2012 state that “all kit items worn during the final tournament must be free of any sponsor advertising”.

Paddy Power’s Ken Robertson said: “I’m truly delighted for Nicklas, what a stunning performance tonight.

“I’ve no doubt that the luck of the Irish thanks to our lucky underpants helped him find the back of the net twice!”

No doubt the bookmaker will gladly pick up the tab for any fine handed to Bendtner. If he was to be handed a suspension, a few Denmark fans might start to question the wisdom of their two-goal herp participating in the stunt.
