Ahead of tonight’s big match, here are a few England vs Sweden moments from yesteryear that you’ll probably recall.

1. Brolin-Dahlin-Brolin (1992)
This well worked one-two has come to be one of the snapshots that represents England failures over the years. Swedish pie fan Tomas Brolin put paid to England’s Euro 92 hopes with this moment.

2. Joe Cole’s wonder volley (2006)
England didn’t have too many highlights at the 2006 World Cup, but this was undoubtedly one of them. Cole controls the ball on his chest before looping in an unstoppable volley.

3. Paul Scholes becomes the first England player to be sent-off at Wembley (1999)
The notoriously hopeless tackler became the first England international to see red at the national stadium after picking up two bookings in this match. The red card comes in the 52nd minute, but we urge you to watch this video from the start and ponder how he survived past the 1st minute.

4. Gary Lineker’s England career ends (1992)
One shy of equally Bobby Charlton’s England goalscoring record and set to retire from international football at the end of England’s involvement in Euro 92, Gary Lineker’s time wearing the Three Lions came to a hardly illustrious end when he was subbed and replaced by Alan Smith. England lost 2-1 and were eliminated.

5. Danny Mills’ international defending masterclas (2002)
First, attempt to chest the ball into the path of an opposition striker. If that fails, kick the ball to another opposition a bit further out. Run to your goal-line and stay there until you receive further instruction.
