In any post-match interview with a goalscorer theses days, all you hear is stock answers prepared during media training sessions about how ‘the team’s performance is the most important thing’ or ‘obviously I would swap my goal for the team winning’.

That is unless you listen to the Cristiano Ronaldo remix.

The Portugal match-winner gave the obligatory mention to his team-mates, but not before he’d pointed out that him scoring was the most important thing.

He said: “I remember the last game I shoot two times in the post too, so today again. But the most important [thing is] that I score, the team win, the team play very, very good and we are in the semi-finals.”
