How do you motivate the national team that’s already won everything? With “an unbelievable amount of sex”. That’s the verdict of ex-England captain Alan Shearer anyway.

The BBC pundit had a minor slip of the tongue during the post-match festivities which led to him crediting Shakira, Sara Carbonero and the rest of Spain’s WAGs with the success.

He said: “It’s the hunger and desire from these guys because, let’s not forget, these guys have had an unbelievable amount of sex success. So for them to actually come here again…”
