Matt Smith’s reward for grabbing a last-gasp equaliser for Oldham against Everton will be a fine.
The substitute ignored a signed order from caretaker manager Tony Philliskirk that all Latics players must keep hold of the shirts after the match. The note above was placed in the Boundary Park tunnel ahead of the FA Cup fifth round clash.
But Smith will now be docked one week’s wages – believed to be around £400 – after throwing his shirt into the crowd. Cash-strapped Oldham are also trying to find out which lucky fan ended up with the shirt so that they can plead for it to be returned.
A club source told the Daily Star: “There is an automatic fine system in place for misplaced pieces of the kit.
“In the meantime we will do what we can to get our hands on as many of the missing shirts as possible.”
