Manchester United youngster Joe Rothwell is set to be come the latest in a line of academy products to make their first-team debuts this season.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Rothwell is in the squad for this evening’s Premier League game against Watford at Old Trafford.
Midfielder Rothwell spent time on loan at Barnsley and Blackpool over the best 12 months, but has been sidelined with a bout of tonsillitis for a chunk of the current campaign.
The 21-year-old has a decent chance of playing. The MEN reports that fellow midfielders Michael Carrick, Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira were not among those checking in at the Lowry Hotel today.
Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and James Weir all made their debuts in last Sunday’s win over Arsenal alone.
And Rothwell could become the 15th academy player to be handed a debut for United during Louis van Gaal’s reign if he plays tonight.
