Referee Mike Jones and his assistants did not see the incident, but Alli has been charged by the Football Association on the basis of video evidence.
In order for a charge to be brought against a player, three former referees view footage of an incident independently of each other. There must be a unanimous decision that all three would have sent-off the player in question had they seen the incident during a match.
That means all three officials have said that Alli should have been shown a red card. The PFA Young Player of the Year has until 6pm tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27 to respond to the charge. Such charges are rarely overturned, which means Alli is likely to receive a three-match ban that would end his season.
