Head coach Quique Sanchez Flores will leave Watford at the end of the season, the club has confirmed.

Sanchez Flores, aged 51, was appointed by the Hornets last summer and has led them to comfortable Premier League safety in their first season in the top division, plus a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

But there had been rumblings for a few weeks that the Spaniard would be ousted at the end of the campaign and that has proven to be the case.

The Hornets are currently 13th in the Premier League, but most of their good work was done early in the season and they have won just two of their past 11 Premier League games.

Sanchez Flores has a win ratio of 32.43 per cent in league games, but his tally of 44 points is no mean feat for a newly-promoted side.

A statement reads: “Watford Football Club can confirm that Quique Sanchez Flores will leave Vicarage Road at the end of the season following the Sunderland game this weekend.

“We would like to thank Quique. He and the team achieved the target set them at the start of the season of staying in the Premier League for a second year.

“Quique leaves with all our best wishes for the future and the knowledge he is always welcome at Vicarage Road.”

Sunday’s home game against Sunderland will be the former Valencia and Atletico Madrid boss’ final game in charge.
