But with City dropping points at home to Middlesbrough yesterday and the Gunners only managing a draw in today’s north London derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Jurgen Klopp’s side have moved a point clear at the top of the table.

They leapfrog Chelsea, who were top for less than 24 hours following their home win over Everton yesterday evening.

A brace from Sadio Mane, plus goals from Philippe Coutinho, Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum saw Liverpool coast to victory over the Hornets.

Today’s result also worked wonders for the Reds’ goal difference. With things still very tight among the top five, only Antonio Conte’s Blues can now boast a better goal difference.
