Arsenal’s £80,000-a-week Andrey Arshavin loves his McDonald's discount vouchers

Dining in swanky over-priced restaurants seems a natural by-product of having a grotesquely large disposable income. But true to his delightfully unconventional nature, Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin bucks this trend quite dramatically.

According to McDonald’s workers in the Hampstead branch of the ‘restaurant’ chain, the diminutive Russian is a regular. What’s more, when it comes to using discount vouchers he is lovin’ it – a fine homage to his manager’s frugal spending habits.

An eagle-eyed employee – whose quotes sound like they have been deep-fried by a press officer – said: “None of us can believe it when we see Andrey in here with his family.

“He’s a regular so collects the £1.99 meal deal vouchers to cut down on the total when they’re in. He could easily eat anywhere in town. But he says he loves the taste of our food and recognises it’s cheap for a full family.”

Eastern Europe’s very own Morgan Spurlock clearly knows a deal when he sees one. Perhaps it’s tempting to brand Arshavin a cheap-skate or mischievously blame his volatile form on regular E-number binges, but on the contrary it seems pretty refreshing to us – a financially conscientious professional footballer not flashing his cash around willy-nilly.

Bravo Andrey.
