Arsenal have not received any approaches for out-of-favour forward Lukas Podolski, according to manager Arsene Wenger.

The Germany international recently claimed that an enquiry had been made by Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs.

But speaking at his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash with West Brom, Wenger indicated that, if true, the approach had not been made through the official channels.

He said: “I have had no enquiries from anybody”

Podolski has been dropping several hints that he wants to leave Arsenal in January. He has largely been confined to the bench this season having spent much of last season as a substitute, too.

But Wenger seems quite keen to keep hold of the World Cup winner, aged 29, despite not having much use for him.

He refused to offload Podolski in the summer and recently said that the former Bayern Munich and Cologne man would only move on if he wanted to sell him.

On his role in the squad, Wenger said today: “He faces big competition. He has an outstanding attitude and he works very hard.”
