Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed the club are tracking Ipswich Town youngster Tyrone Mings.

As we have reported in recent months, Gunners scouts have been regulars at Portman Road this season and Wenger is tipped to make an £8m bid for the left-back.

Speaking at this morning’s press conference, Wenger said he was following a number of young players but was not close to signing any of them.

Presented with Mings’ name, he replied: “He is one of the young players we follow.”

The 21-year-old is currently deployed at full-back by the Tractor Boys, but the 6ft 3in prospect is expected to move to centre-back in the coming seasons.

But the bad news for Gooners was that Wenger gave no indication that he is close to signing any established players in the January transfer window.
